They should just rename GW2 to reflect what it will be: Guild WoW.

I have to agree with Delor. Especially when they mentioned characters won't be able to be migrated over. If this expansion is it....
What's the point in getting anymore armor and skills? The characters will just be abandoned by '08.

After thinking about it, I think the part that makes me the saddest about this news is the fact that I already know I'm going to buy it anyway

The details are too vague yet really to justify any feelings in regards to the purchasing area for me.

I'd be spastic over the prospect of Guild WoWs... assuming the WoW part is more dynamic PvE, better loot, more freedom of movement, and all that. Some of those ideas are very cool, but they definitely make it a very different game from Guild Wars. And that's okay with me - I've already played Guild Wars... many times. The prospect of a radical overhaul is pretty exciting - assuming they stay true to the fundamentals of the original. What's weird is their abandoning of the campaign structure. I don't really know how to take that. Does it mean there won't be a self-contained story, but more of an ongoing thing? Makes sense that you can't take characters over, though, with all those changes. I'm sure the armor, loot, attributes, everything will be overhauled. I'll be sad to abandon my merry band of Karns, but really, by 2009, won't we all be ready to move on? Eye of the North... odd. It's a very cool idea to add onto the continents we already have. Back when I was a wee n00b, I assumed the expansions would fill in all the unexplored area on the Tyria map. And now they will! Yay! But the rest of the stuff sounds dangerously close to a "numbers" expansion - more, more, MORE!! but not better. It really does sound like Sorrow's Furnace Gone Wild. I didn't see anything about PvE items though. There. I've made up for never posting. EDIT: Oh yeah, the level cap. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they've radically redefined what it means to "level". For now.

The level thing was what I was referring to in my Guild WoW comment. It seems like with a high level cap, you can end up with people of super high level being better, not from skill, but from grind (which as we all know is what WoW is all about). If they just make it so that high level means better armor art or something, then that is fine...but if it means more attribute points or something like that, I will be sorely disappointed.

I'm really hoping it's just a cosmetic thing, like rank or fame... maybe with a few perks like shinier armor, like you said. Then again, I can definitely see nightmarish scenarios where you can't get into a good team unless you're level 500 or higher or something.

Yeah I'm not so sure about the high level cap idea. Everything else looks good though, as long as we still have the same build system so we's can make those crazy builds we're so fond of.
Oh and I saw concept art of the Norns, finally....Norm Gnomesmusher can finally look like he can squash them gnomes good. Norm the Norn?
EDIT: I've posted 56 times? I dont remember the other 50 posts at all....

You have to consider how they like to test the waters. Remember the debate with assassins and ritualists not getting new skills in Nightfall? Audience feedback pushed the development team to include them, at least. If there is enough disgust, they'll likely change their minds. After reading so many flame responses to the topic---it mostly left me pondering. Mostly, I want to know what this---Hall of Memories? Or whatever it was is in regards to our old characters. That'll be the breaker----two years away.

I don't think I'd mind the higher level cap, if it was 35-40. 100+ is sad though. That means more grind than WoW. Let's hope to god theres a secret cow level that makes the grind at least kind of funny.

I'm still mulling this all over. It's nice to get an idea of what they're thinking of but so much can change in two years. I think I'll just keep an eye on GW:EN and let GW2 sort itself out as it goes along. Also, I haven't actually had a chance to read the article, so I'm waiting on that, too. I found this bit from Gaile about the Hall of Monuments: I'm not sure if it was in this thread that the question was asked, but I did want to share some good news:
We do completely understand that you want to keep your character names. After all, character names are a special part of your Guild Wars experience. So you'll be happy to know that yes, your character name will be reserved for you. If you link a Guild Wars 2 character to a Guild Wars character, the GW2 character will inherit the GW character’s accomplishments, as recorded in your Hall of Monuments. The Hall of Monuments, available through Guild Wars: Eye of the North, will provide access to unique companions, equipment, miniatures, titles, etc. that can’t be obtained any other way in GW2.
I like the whole idea of building a "family history" for my characters in The Hall of Monuments. With the timespan between Guild Wars: Eye of the North and Guild Wars 2, it's a cool idea to pass things--even names--down "through the family." Thank goodness. I just don't know if I could basically restart this game without a Triia.

Ok After reading the article another dozen times, I just realized that the high level cap does not seem like it's something superficial. There's a sidekick system where you can sidekick someone who is 10 levels or more below you up to your own level.
This pretty much suggests that the high level cap isnt something superficial beyond level 20 otherwise why need the sidekick system? But it could be that gaining levels is a lot faster than usual.
Oh and races have their own primary attributes. And apparently there will be no more need for henchies/heroes....not sure how that works. We'll have 2 years to get used to all this...

Interesting article here. Jeff Strain gives a little more detail on the monuments and such. And there is some very nice concept art and screenshots down at the bottom. Those Anet concept artists.... they do some awfully nice work. *sigh* Sounds like GW2 is still very much in the throwing-ideas-around stage. There are some interesting ones, but it's still a long way off.
