I'm very worried about the state of our Grand Republic. I expected a increase in activity with the release of Nightfall, but we seem to have lost a good number of our members. I was looking at some old screenshots and realized how much I miss the days of Grand Adventures and Smiting of Enemies. Those days might never return but even worse, I feel that the Republic is fading. What can we do about this? Are there activities, such as GvGs/HA, that would bring people back? Should we do some recruiting? How do you guys feel about how things are going? My life has recently been turned upside-down and shaken really hard. I'm going to be moving by the end of the month so I might not be around for a while (or maybe even worse, god save me, around, but on dial-up D: ). In other words, if we decide to do some recruiting, I won't be able to help out much until I'm settled and serious PvP might be completely out of the question for a while. I guess all good things must come to an end, but I'm not ready for the end of HLR yet. I don't want to see our Grand Republic fade slowly away into obscurity and I'll need a lot of help if we want to return it to something like it's former glory. Thoughts?

This is something that Jupiter and I have been noticing lately as well. When we get on in the evenings we're most likely to be the only ones there, at least until Khunlin gets on. We have tried to get Rhea and Arand more involved in the guild activities, but they prefer to do their own thing. Perhaps we should try contacting the guild members who haven't been around lately. I had been doing that for the people who were gone for more than a month or two, but I haven't done it in a while.
I don't know if activities will bring people back. Lately, we have had some disappointment in the activities department because we haven't had enough people. Not enough people for an activity then leads down a slippery slope because no one wants to try to set something up, only to have it all fail because we're short one person.
I personally think recruiting is going to be a lot more difficult than it once was, mostly because of the Heroes. A lot of people are building parties with only heroes and henchmen and doing the game alone. Our normal mode of recruiting becomes almost useless then, since we can't form parties with people. This just leaves us with recruiting from boards or channel spamming, which usually do not get the kind of people we want.
I think our best bet is to try to reinvigorate our current population. I don't know how to do this, but we should start by trying to talk to them. We're missing most of our regulars - Male, Logo, Monkey, Syb, Drum, Delor, Ducky, etc. They show up on occasion (mostly when I'm not around for some reason), but not with any regularity like they used to. Perhaps we should find out why. I know most people are busy since school started back up, and there is a flood of new games in the market.
What can I do to help?

Exactly. I can't think how to do it, but if we have any ideas, I'm more than happy to try to see them through. I miss the good ol' days

I actually logged in a few times within the past week and noticed no one was on (and this was even in the early-mid evening), which somewhat shocked me. As I posted in another thread, FFXII and school have been keeping me plenty busy, but I definitely miss you guys. I've been waiting for someone to post events, but none have come up yet, so I've only ever really logged in for a few minutes. I do have NF now, but I have yet to take anyone through it >< But, I promise I will be around a bit more here soon.

I can't play with the regularity I used to. I already messed up in college, and my GF is likely to ground me. I am planning to come back when I finally get Nightfall, so everything will be new and exciting to me while you are taking your 2nd or third character through the campaign (hopefully you don't yell at me for watching cinematics). I'm all for PvP, but getting ahold of me for it is going to be more difficult as I'm checking forums more like 2-3 times a week instead of 2-3 times a day. I'll go ahead and post my email in the Strategy section (off subject but guild only access). Use that to get ahold of me if you need that 8th-ish man.

This is a subject near and dear to my heart. I can't get into other games I own because they don't have you guys but yet GW seems to be losing that as well. Obviously (to me at least) its best to stir up those we know and love so consider yourself prodded peoples! You are the best, you are great citizens of the Grand Republic and we miss you and want to kill things with you! Was it my screenshot that ran you off? I've also got a message for those of you who are falling out with GW and into with a GF. There is dealage on the other side of falling in love! ;D Perhaps it's time we bring out the 1v1 tournament idea (w/ or w/o heroes)? If we are past the point of getting all or most of our regulars regular again, then I would like to recruit. I agree that Heroes have taken a lot out of joining with players (even within the guild), but I'm sure there are other worthy people we can group with. In fact I think I'm off to scan the posts on GWOnline. Lastly, I have to say in a decade I highly doubt any of us will be playing GW. More important than when it dwindles to a critical mass is what we take out of these years of great dealage. That to me would be some of the most reasonable, quality, dealage, funny, smart, awesome gamers in all the internet. So if you find your desire to smite things with the Republic dwindling, make sure you leave some sort of contact so when the next coolest game comes out we know who to call! /my .02 that never fails to turn into a gigantic post

I'm sorry I haven't been on more often. I'd like nothing more than to rampage through the lands of Elonia with you guys, but I've just been swamped in schoolwork. I've considered bursting into my professors' offices shouting about impending doom and deadly plagues and night falling across the land, but the poor fools just wouldn't understand. Fine. When they start growing extra appendages and spontaneously exploding, we'll see who's laughing. In the meantime, I'll continue to shake my fist at those lazy English majors. Anyway, when I do get on, it's usually after I've finished my work, and by then, everyone's gone. As for what to do about the state of the republic... first and foremost, we just need to wait for replies to this thread. I've made it an announcement so everyone sees it. Once we get a better idea of where everyone is, we can decide what to do. Unfortunately, it probably is going to come down to recruiting - I don't see a wave of people returning if they haven't already. So I wouldn't be against some fresh blood. I haven't been off the island yet, but are PuGs really dead? I sure hope not... sure defeats the point of an online RPG. We could always do the first mission in Nightfall over and over again... or maybe just spam "LF PLAYERS WITH CARNAL LOVE FOR RADIOHEAD TO JOIN DEALAGE GUILD" in Lion's Arch. That'll get us the best players in the game, guaranteed.

Quite frankly, I can put it down to not having enough money at the time for Nightfall when it was released. And of course, since expansions mean new skills/adventures/professions it can be quite disheartening when you see a Dervish and think "Why oh why, couldn't that be me?". For not being on often, it's been mostly because of schoolwork and lacrosse. Lacrosse takes up Wednesday afternoons and Saturdays for me (Friday nights for you, which is pretty much the most active day for HLR). Schoolwork bogs me down at every turn, and I can only seeing next year getting worse. I feel guilty all the time, because you guys are the best (online) community I've ever been a part of, and it's sad that I can't spend more time pwning enemy 00bs of the Republic anymore

Seems like one of the recurring themes here is schoolwork and the lack of time after it is finished. I guess the teachers this year are giving out way more work than last year. Perhaps we could set up a time for HLR homework dealage. Some of us do have degrees, and we might be able to help out. Except for English class...I hate it. If you are having a slow go doing your work, hop on to vent sometime, and we might be able to help out...maybe. What are online friends for, if not to do all your work for you?

Wow, it's nice to see some activity on the board! We'll probably be beating people off with a stick after we hold Halls for, what was it, Khunlin two weeks? Well, if we survive it, that is.

Kaiser, I know that there's GW to be played, even with a GF, but as of now I'm saving up my points with her, so that when I do acquire Nightfall, I can talk her into making a character on my account and trying it. Delor is such a scheming schemer. Anyway I'll try logging on more, but no guarantees. I need to just log onto vent more, that'd prolly drag me in if people were on...

Hm...had a great thought on the way in this morning. I will try to back into how I got it but may run out of time (if you don't have the time skip to the bottom). So, when I was in college I had a BF that was into gaming and would not realize that he had me in his dorm room for hours while he played some FPS never realizing how slow time goes for observers not actually playing. Somehow though I have evolved into an obsessed gamer...now how that transition came about for me (every girl will have a different story and different reasons). It took me meeting a gentleman later in college (you too can be one!) that expressed a desire for me to like what he liked. It also required a multiplayer game where the object wasn't to kill my new guy. I'm competitive and I hate to be killed by someone I know. ;D Anyway, D2, DS, Warcraft, Civ and other strategy games were good gateway games for me, but I think GW has the potential to be the best one of all for any girl. Kaiser discovered GW back in Jan 05 by reviews and told me all of the things they did differently to correct all the bad things about MMORPGs even though I'd never played one because I refused to pay per month (new college grads + paying monthly fee = not so much). So we spent $5 on a preorder and tried it during the Feb beta weekend (incl friend key). Well as I've told some of you, my biggest challenge was steering. I had an older computer and lag and the pathing was a LOT worse than it is now. Anyway, 2 things hooked me immediately...1. I got to play WITH not against Kaiser and he was able to help me in game and not point over my shoulder and be a side seat driver and 2. the appearance of the game. I don't have to tell you its a gorgeous game, but seriously the different armors and character creation in general is so very fun for us females. Onto my point - yes I do actually have one! If any of you (now or in the future) want to get your GF into the game, yes creating a character on your account may work. That's how Rhea got into GW, but mind you she had other RL people to play with/show her the ropes. What I would offer, particularly if you can have your 2 computers in the same room, is to use Friend keys and play with her. I will give anyone who wants one mine and I'm sure there are others in the guild who would also donate. It's a great way to recruit!

Delor Mephalon reporting into Elona ;D Yay! Good idea, Jupiter. I'd be willing to offer up any friend keys that I have, too, if anyone needs/wants them.
