With all the young whippersnappers running around the republic these days, the formative days of the HLR seem to be but a distant memory. People nowadays think they're entitled to so much - kids thinking they can pick their OWN nicknames, for crying out loud!
But let me tell you... back in the day, we didn't take anything for granted. Forums? What forums? We walked FIFTEEN MILES all the way to halflife2.net to conduct our business. Our minds exploded with joy at the mere thought of eight members on at the same time, and when we finally entered our first GvG match... People make a joke out of "group flailing" today, but back then, we showed the world what REAL flailing means. And our rank might have been low, sure, but we didn't know how to check it, or for that matter, even care! We savored every SECOND we spent on the blood-soaked wasteland that was our Warrior's Isle, because we understood that the opportunity to get pwned like that DOES NOT come without sacrifices!
And back then... we had real leadership. Sure, no one really knew who Mistress Ritz was, and Rico and Nul didn't do much, but... *sniff* ...they were there when we didn't need them the most.
Lest you think that my words are the ramblings of a senile old man, whose relevance lies far away in the days of unbridled guild channel spam and Monkey-led grand adventures, I've unearthed these documents chronicling our humble beginnings. Watch as Rico valiantly declares "we should start a HL2.net guild" and our now Glorious Leader follows close behind. See the first glimpse of organization in the famous Guild Discussion thread. Those were the days.
