I've recently obtained a shiny 25 person ventrilo server for our uses. hostname: strafe.typefrag.com port: 17710 password: halflife Officers, the admin password is the same as the old server. There's alot of options that I have no idea what to do with. The quality seems to be quite good, although there are alot of codecs to choose from. Where's the audio expert?  |

Well, I couldn't find one, so I'll try to fill in in his stead  I fiddled with the codecs and even ran a frequency response test on GSM and Speex... I won't bore you with details, but I don't think anyone would notice a difference. The main determining factor in sound quality is probably going to the the kbps, with the top quality GSM codec coming in at 8.9, and the Speex coming in at 5.52... But then Speex is a VBR codec... So that might not be completely accurate... They're both pretty damn good. Shouldn't really matter. Just go for the ones with the biggest numbers. Flip a coin to decide between Speex and GSM =P Note: This isn't REALLY my field, the only reason I know anything about codecs is from a few months ago when I tried to build a Digital Amplifier with PW modulators and DSPs and fun stuff. It didn't work, and I think it was because I got the codecs messed up... So take my advice with a grain of salt. Maybe an ice-cold Dr. Pepper, too... Salt is pretty gross on its own.  |
