Hi everyone,
The Half-Life Republic is currently looking to expand, both in recruiting new members and forming alliances with like-minded guilds. We hope you’ll find that we have a lot to offer to the Guild Wars community – read on to learn more about us. (You’ll find the most important information in a fact-box at the end of this post, but you may miss out on juicy delirious ramblings.)
Who We Are
The Half-Life Republic is a moderately sized PvE and PvP guild. Though we have a core of dedicated strategists and have waged quite a few GvGs since our founding shortly after the release of Prophesies, our top priority is always on having fun. With members hailing from across North America and including our lone Australian, we’re as much a group of friends as we are a competitive guild. And because of this enthusiasm for the game and each other, we can be a force to be reckoned with in both a PvE and PvP environment. Case in point: two of our current officers joined the guild after taking part in one of our Thunderhead Keep runs.
You might also be curious about our name. The Half-Life Republic in its current incarnation has almost nothing to do with Half-Life. The guild was created by a group of friends on a Half-Life 2 fansite, but has since expanded and diversified to unrecognizable proportions. Many of our most active members have never played Half-Life at all! Furthermore, our guild has no interest in exponential decay – we’re always looking to improve ourselves. It could, however, be argued that some of our members have spent half of their life playing Guild Wars. Feel free to devise your own interpretations. At the same time, though half-life may be a misnomer, we are indeed a Great Republic of Much Virtue. As such, forming alliances is practically built into our name.
What We Offer
The Half-Life Republic offers amenities that far outclass other, lesser republics. Register for free nuking lessons taught by our very own Professor of Explosio-Deathness (Hint: a good nuker uses his/her paper armor to the fullest extent and dies a lot), and relax in the Guild Hall’s Puddle of Destiny (Version 4.0!) after a hard day learning how to die most efficiently. Devise conspiracy theories of Alesia’s evildoings over a pint of Dwarven Ale, or catch a rousing speech by our Illustrious Leader under the Speaking Rock. The choice is yours.
Most importantly, the HLR has a pet monkey who happens to have a knack for devising Crazy Strategies that Just Might Work. He was mocked heartily for his idea of an EoE bomb until it became the Next Big Thing (after which he was still mocked heartily, for he is, after all, a pet monkey).
The Half-Life Republic is also Your Source for the fashion conscious individual. Logonitur Karn’s Green Gloves of +2 Awesomeness were born from a dye experiment gone terribly wrong (that never felt so right), but some would argue that their power is far surpassed by Malae Delwynn’s legendary Purple Armor. Joining the HLR means being able to say that you were in on The Next Big Thing way before it happened.
What We Offer that You Actually Care About
We’ve always been big on voice chat – it helps build comradery and gives an important strategic edge. We use Ventrilo on a regular basis and have a 25 person server. We also have the requisite forums to organize events, strategize, and chat, and are working on putting together a website as well.
We really enjoy formulating new builds and testing them out in a PvP environment. We do mainly Team Arenas and GvG, although we are becoming much more active in HA and recently won Halls for the first time. Again, however, we are far more interested in having fun than winning the world championship – we may sacrifice a few ranking points on the ladder in the name of trying out a crazy new build, or embarking on a Grand Adventure to some exotic corner of Tyria or Cantha.
We rely on our forums to organize events, discuss PvP builds and strategy and keep in touch. When nothing is scheduled (which is rare, considering we usually have something planned at least once a week!), you'll find that our most active times are in the evenings (around 8-12 EST) and on the weekends (which, in the Republic's calendar, include Thursday-Sunday).
