Monday, Jan. 16 - Elites, possibly a little GvG
I'm planning on a "light" week in anticipation of a completely sleepless weekend, but I still want to have a little GW fun.
Would anyone care to get together for a bit tonight to collect elites? I'd still like to go to Frozen Forest and I also would like to take a run into Snake Dance for Mantra of Recall.
Oh! I'd forgotten that the ladder is reset. Hmmm... I'm not sure if we should just jump right in or wait. Personally, I'm still a little burnt out on PvP, but I wouldn't mind a few GvGs using our balanced build.
I'm hoping to be on fairly early tonight (~9pm hopefully). Let me know if you want to join in.

Let me know if you want to join in. I wouldn't say I'm really burnt out on GvG, but I am burnt out on playing Click the Squares for two hours while we amble about aimlessly in preparation. There's no reason we shouldn't be able to throw together the balanced built in less than 30 minutes, play a match or two, and move on to some light skill capping. This would be made easier if everyone could post here if they're coming or not, so we could figure out who's doing what ahead of time. I'm always up for some GW fun, but I do have to get off relatively early tonight. I think that might be a good thing for all of us to do, though.

I'm up for skill capping. I think we should make this decision wisely on jumping into GvG so early into ladder. This isn't to be taken lightly, do we want to start off the new season against ZPZG? Or any of the other top guilds who were knocked out of the championship? We could get completely destroyed, or we could do decent, or if some miracle happens we win. Wouldn't that be glorious? Also, it would give us an opportunity to learn, which is always good.
Thoughts?

I'm up for capping in Frozen Forest, Kaiser and I did Snake Dance last night along with Ice Floe. Mantra of Recall is pretty nice. I'm not so sure on the GvG, even if we intend it to be quick somehow it never is. If my being there is necessary for going or going quickly I may be pressured into it if it's not too late.

Well, there are some new arena-type areas and little quests to be done in the Battle Isles. There are also supposedly new drops? Tombs is UWish. Lots to see even before we get new characters with which to see! I'll be out and about and will be looking for people to do things with, particularly if it involves faction.

You can basically farm faction off of NPCs now. Also, UW is free to get into (from Temple of Balthazar, I assume) and new green drops have been confirmed! My head is going to explode! I'll never be able to decide what to do tonight. *twitch* And the real thing hasn't even started yet. My current analogy: It's like Chrismas Eve; mom and dad have piled all of the wrapped presents around the tree (reeeally interestingly shaped ones, too!) and are now just standing guard until morning. Gah... who can sleep with that going on? Edit: I keep finding more stuff. ;D The old Tombs is now a PvE area! You have to fight through it and there are three nasty bosses at the end. I'm not sure if there are green drops there, but it sounds neat. The info is in the thread I have linked above. There's a really nice screen of the Halls area with a Chaos Worm. Scary!

Tonight, Jan. 24th. 9:30 EST.
There are some plans to go back to the new UW again, to get those tasty greens. If you are interested and available, let us know.

I would be interested, as long as we have a good group.
I'd be happy to monk again.

As many of you know, I really dislike the new Underworld.
This is why:
1.) The primary appeal of PvE in an RPG is exploration and story. The new UW completely strips these two elements from the game, reducing the experience to pure grind. There's no strategy in facing bots, because you know what they're going to do. You know what's going to be around the next corner, because it's the same as what was around the LAST corner! Sure the HoH and such is nice to look at at first, but then you realize it, like all the other arenas, has no variety whatsoever. That's because Tombs is a PvP arena! It wasn't meant to cater to PvE, which is why it has none of PvE's redeeming qualities. (And yes, guys, it was fun to do once, but the exploration is done. We've seen it.)
2.) The area is relatively challenging, yes, but in a highly obnoxious and uncreative way. The enemies have superhuman interrupt skills, forcing you to take a spell like Mantra of Resolve to counter it. And with no variety in enemies throughout the different stages, there's no reason to think strategically about whether or not it's worth it to bring certain skills. Because each group is essentially the same, you know what skills you need, so it's just a matter of mindlessly using them.
3.) Everything involving a chaos worm has hardly any worthwhile strategy involved - it's pure tedium. Just a mind-numbing repetition of pull, kill, pull, kill, pull, kill, until you can finally take the worm out. The worm's siege attack is so ridiculous, there's basically no way to counter it - no alternate strategies... just pull.
4.) The placement of green items at the end goes DIRECTLY AGAINST the entire point of Guild Wars, which was to reduce the grind present in traditional MMOs. You MUST grind through two hours of the aforementioned disaster to get the items, and there is no element of surprise. No, "OOOooo, I got a green item!" No rush of excitement, no thrill of exploration and discovery. IT EVEN STRIPS THE FUN OUT OF GRIND! And these green items... what are they really? They're essentially PvP weapons with altered (not better) stats and a shiny green name. A petty reward for a trip through hell.
So no. I don't think I'm interested.
I'd love to hear a rebuttal, though.

I don't disagree with Logo. I would be interested in another round but some time further down the road when it's not so fresh in my mind. Not to mention, I am not up for a 2 hour commitment starting at 9:30 on a weeknight. Yes, that's right we all know I'm a wuss.

GvG night, Jan. 26th. 9:30 EST.
This is the way it's going to work, no hours of preparation. All pre-planned, people will have their characters ready and know exactly what they are playing. There will be a few ways to make sure this happens. First, you post what you will do here. Or, I bug you until you tell me, and I will add it.
We will be going with our axe spike/degen build.
Axe spiker #1- Jupiter Axe spiker #2- Monkey Degen necro #1- Kaiser Degen necro #2- Phame Energy spiking mesmer- Logo Flag runner/Back up healer- advenT Monk #1- Triia Monk #2- Malae
Team has filled up. If you still want in, sign up as a spare and if somebody doesn't show up, you take over.

Here I had a drawn out plan for this weekend and you make it unnecessary. Thank you, honestly. I was just trying to put together a solution instead of always having a problem (time constraint). 1/26/05 is Thursday and I should be on and ready by 9:30...I will have prepared 1 axe spiker, unless 2 someone else's post that they would like to axe spike, but I'll believe it when I see it. If we cannot round up 8 people, I am brimming with ideas on other stuff to do, depending on who and how many are on.

Well, since we seem to have decided that we no longer need Bryn to protect the monks, I guess I will try out my skillz as a degen artist. I can do -7 mez, -12 blood necro, or a combo of both...which would you prefer?
Also, I have class on Thursday nights, so I may be a little late to the party. I will get there as soon as I can.
