I have been *ahem* thinking about Factions a bit lately and the upcoming preview and trying to decide what I'm going to do. I have one slot available, two new classes to try and the fact that everyone is going to be using those classes as well. The PvP weekend was pretty easy, character-decision-wise, having that PvP slot open and all. Now... I'm assuming we will be able to use our current PvE characters in the preview which allows a little more flexibility at least, but still.... Argh!! Indecision! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has thought about this and if you have any particular plans. Also, from what you have seen so far, are any of you leaning towards either faction yet? They both seem interesting to me and I hope we get a better idea of what they're like next weekend. Please discuss.

I plan to be on alot during the weekend, and if I manage to complete eveything I can with the ritualist (which is my first choice). Then i'll delete it and continue as an assassin.
As for which Faction.. I'm not swayed either way. It'll be interesting to see more about them on the weekend. But, as of now i'd be happy with either one.
What does everyone plan to do with their accounts? Merge and have 6 slots or keep 2 accounts and have 8?
I'm merging.

Merge, why?
1) I get my GW:P skills, and some are pretty deadly when combined with the new skills. 2) Managing 2 accounts might take some getting used to. 3) Have fun unlocking skills for both accounts. 4) If a person never merges, then watch it becomes a real mess with new expansions.
BTW, Ritualists FTW. Who wants to form an all Ri party for the living hell of it?

Yeah, I hate to have to do it, but I'll be merging my accounts ( ). Eh... it'll still be two more slots than what I have now. I've been thinking that I'm probably most interested in the Ritualist too, at this point. Hmmm... maybe a Ri/Ne. Yay for dead things! I hope we have the option to try the new classes as secondaries for existing characters. That could be interesting....ooooo, a Ne/As....hmmm..... *wanders off*

I haven't actually been paying attention, I don't know anything about the factions... so I can't choose.
I will have an A/R, because it was fun in the PvP event.

Ritualists are obviously the most uber leet thing there is, so I'm going to try that out first...
But has anyone realised what will happen when Factions is released? There will be no balance, it will just be a sea of assassins and ritualists.
May god have mercy on our souls...

Wondering about the Factions myself, from what I've seen so far I'm not totally for either one. I've no preference yet and would be fine either way. As far as this preview weekend, I keep planning my two slots (yes, I'm merging as well) instead of thinking of the immediate future. I'd like to Mo/A and Ri/N and will probably use my one slot this weekend to test one of those. I'm such a geek, I've taken that Friday off and plan to be on early that morning >.<
What about Alliances? Is anyone formulating plans?

I'm just happy that Anet decided to hold the preview weekend during my Spring Break, so I have that day off anyway. As for me, I plan to have at least one ritualist, and maybe a Me/A to fill out my 2 slots. I haven't decided on a secondary for the Rit yet, because I don't know if I want it to be a supporter or an attacker. On the other hand, I may switch the seondary of one or more of my other characters and just mess around with my 2 slots until I come up with something. Factions? Don't really care since whichever one we join will be the winner all the time. We are so dealage.
And Triia...a Ne/A shadowstepping Dark Bomber would own.

I guess I need to acknowledge my inner geek as well... I've been making arrangements to have as much of Friday free as possible too. As far as Alliances, that is certainly something we need to discuss. I'm hoping we'll see how they work a little more clearly next weekend. It sounds like there will be a head guild of each Alliance, so if we join one, we'll want to know what we're getting into. I'll have to get the liason officer working on that. And Triia...a Ne/A shadowstepping Dark Bomber would own. That's exactly the sort of evil plan I was formulating. MWAHAHAHA!!!

I think merging accounts is a fairly obvious choice. I won't give up my two extra-extra character slots without a fair amount of whining and moaning, but our characters have got to be able to travel between campaigns. We're most likely going to need them to do some of the higher level quests, and it would completely defeat the point of getting the two extra slots if I had to, for example, remake a nuker and mesmer for use in Cantha. For this reason I'm not only merging myself, but strongly encouraging all of our members to do so as well. And I'm definitely going to make a PvE ritualist, for use in both the preview weekend and the actual game. I know we're going to be overrun by the new classes, but I'd be happy to take a break from rituals to burninate and mesmerize if it's in the best interest of Our Good Republic. As far as what faction to join, at this point I don't know enough to give a worthwhile opinion. I think it is worth noting, though, that the guilds in the faction are probably gonna be more important than the faction itself. And as Kaiser wisely pointed out, the only guild that really matters is the Half-Life Republic, so no matter which faction we join, we really can't lose. I guess I need to acknowledge my inner geek as well... What an amazing idea!

Yes, we must look after our own interests first. I'd really like to see how the system works before entering into an alliance. HERO would be okay, but I really wouldn't want them as the head guild

Personally, I would prefer to play on our own for a bit before making alliances. I say we take to it the same way we take to getting new members of the Republic. I want to play with people first to get a feel for how thir strengths and weaknesses compliment our own. I would expect though that we would at least ally with our friends, like HERO, Random's new guild (should he go through with his plan to make a PvE guild), etc. out of friendship.
Does anyone know if there will be any benefits to being members of one faction over another? I mean, will there be a different playing style depending on which faction you are in because one faction has a certain bonus and the other does not?

I thought there were going to be 3 different factions, what happened to that? I'll probably merge my accounts and continue with my fast attack/crit blow build, that was a TON of fun. Plus, if I get bored there are still a ton of other sin skills I haven't looked at yet.

advenT - There are three factions, but one is supposed to be neutral, therefore not joinable. Delor - The event is this weekend. It starts at 12:01 am Friday and lasts until Sunday night. Come along! It should be fun.
